Action for the Needy in Ethiopia (ANE) is an indigenous, non-Governmental, humanitarian organization established in 2012 and registered by the government of Ethiopia as a legal entity on 06 August 2012. ANE has been granted the permission to work in all regional states of the country. It was re-registered on 17 June 2019 by the Agency for Civil Society Organization (ACSO) under the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia (FDRE) to work in Pastoral and Agro-Pastoral Regions of Ethiopia with registration number 2825.

After Taking ANE’s vision and its pioneer partnership with IGAD into consideration, Ethiopian Government Office of Agency for Civil Societies Organizations (ACSO) granted ANE an official license that allows to operate in the other African Countries/regions. This license helps ANE to expand its humanitarian and development programs at international level, particularly to East Africa. ANE has already established its offices in Kenya, Uganda, Djibouti and South Sudan IGAD member states.

To this end, ANE signed a five-year MOU with IGAD in March 2021 to collaborate on addressing forced displacement and migration issues in the IGAD region. As part of this MOU, ANE received funding from IGAD to implement a project to improve education and livelihood challenges of refugees and host communities in the cross-border areas of Ethiopia and South Sudan. This initiative is known as IGAD-Action for the Needy in Ethiopia (ANE) intervention to support the implementation of aspects of the Djibouti and Kampala Declarations targeting South Sudanese and Ethiopia refugees and host communities. Accodingly, this projcect is bringing good change on the lives and livelihoods of the refugees and host communities in Gambella, Ethiopia and cross - bordering South Sudan areas.
